Hubberholme
Hubberholme cradled me, soft as a sigh
Under wide Dales skies where the sweet swallows fly.
Whispers of sacrifice sung like a hymn.
Red poppies lay gently where they buried the soldiers in their fine trim.
I wandered to Hubberholme, quiet and deep,
Where the river holds secrets, the hills softly keep.
I paused in the silence,
My heart held aware,
Of my first tender kiss, with nature’s love affair.
