Inverness to Dunnet Bay
May 12th, Travelling from Inverness to Dunnet Bay
We set off at 12:00pm.
From what I could see while driving through, Inverness looks beautiful. I’d definitely recommend staying there. We were just on the outskirts this time, but next time we’ll book somewhere more central and take time to explore properly.
As we left the city, we crossed over Ness Bridge—absolutely breathtaking. The photo doesn’t quite capture how stunning it really was.
We arrived at the Tomich Café at 12:47pm. I had a lovely quiche and salad, and Richard had a prawn sandwich. The service was very slow, but the food was good. We left the café at 1:47pm. I’d recommend this stop—there aren’t many cafés or toilets for miles. In fact, we didn’t see another one until we reached Wick!
I took over the driving for the next 40 minutes—this was my first time driving the van. I was nervous but proud of myself. I managed 33.6 miles!
We stopped to fill up at the Gulf petrol station (Beach Petrol Station) at 2:47pm.
We arrived at Dunnet Bay at 4:41pm.
Check-in was easy—it’s a ‘find your own pitch’ site. We chose a spot further back, near the road. It was quite busy, but it didn’t really bother us. We picked it because we felt it had the best view on the site. (Picture below.)
Once we’d parked, I sat in the driver’s seat for at least 10 minutes, taking in the incredible view. It was absolutely awe-inspiring—the photo doesn’t do it justice.
We were both exhausted, so after a quick walk down to the beach and taking a few photos, we settled down for an early night.
The shower block was in excellent condition—hot showers and not too busy.
Conclusion: One of the best sites we’ve stayed at for views. Breathing in that pure Scottish air, with beautiful sweeping beaches and golden sands. As Richard said, lots of white horses in the waves. We really wish we’d booked an extra night.
