One of the most beautiful coastal places, Robin Hood's Bay, stands out for its unique, steep, winding roads leading down to the sea. This picturesque hamlet's charming red brick tiles and beautiful stonewashed walls captivate all who visit. Once a smuggler's paradise in the 1800s, it carries a rich history.
I was first introduced to Robin Hood's Bay many years ago while working as a stand-in AD for a children’s program featuring young actors. Instantly enamoured, I knew someday I would create a film here, which we did in 2015 with "Crooked Billet" My husband directed and was the cinematographer while I produced, it was an incredible experience that resulted in a meaningful film.
The bay attracts tourists year-round, especially during summer and winter. We often stay at the Victoria Hotel, perched on the hill, offering breathtaking views of the scenery and sea—a lovely retreat.
The area is dog-friendly, yet it's essential to be mindful of the tide, which can come in quickly. Gazing up at the steep paths on the beach, one feels transported back in time, reminiscent of a Dickensian tale.
With its character and charm, there are many delightful spots to explore, from quaint tea rooms to a fish and chip shop and an inviting pub. A day out here promises to be nothing short of magical.
